HIV disease has a strong association with prolonged illness, death, sex (particularly homosexuality) and drug use - issues that many of us would rather not talk about.

Certainly HIV/AIDS is a challenge to society and to those infected and affected, but it is only a challenge. The real problem is the ignorance, denial, fear and intolerance surrounding the disease and those living with it.

This fear has led to devastating hurt and stigma. People living with HIV have been disowned by their families, fired from their jobs, and asked to leave heir homes. They have faced discrimination in receiving medical care and in some cases have even been physically attacked.
