Are you at risk for HIV/AIDS? Your health care provider is your best source for information and advice, but this assessment screening can help give you an overall idea of your risk level.
Complete the questions below by answering yes or no, and then proceed to the bottom to assess your risk level.
- Are you sexually active?
- Do you have a sexually transmitted disease, such as syphilis, herpes, chlamydia or gonorrhea?
- Have you even once had unprotected sex with someone who was not proven to be HIV-negative?
- Do you use intravenous (injected) drugs?
- Have you even once shared or reused a needle used by someone else?
- Do you have contact in your work or elsewhere with body fluids such as blood, semen, organs or tissue from other people?
- Have you ever had a tattoo or body piercing?
- Have you or a sexual partner ever been incarcerated?
- Are you pregnant?
- Do you always take precautions whenever handling body fluids from other people?
If you answered ‘Yes’ to questions 1-9, you are at risk for contracting the HIV virus, or you could already have the virus. If you answered ‘No’ to question 10, you are at risk.
